Why Switchboard Upgrades Actually Matter
Scroll through real examples from our own jobs: the risk, the evidence, and the fix.
Ceramic fuses, not the safest option
Original rewireable fuses supplying most of the house, with RCDs mounted beside them. No spare capacity, old wiring and old connections.
A hot spot invisible to the eye
From a job we scanned recently: this connection read 42.3°C against an ambient of around 21°C. Nothing looked wrong to the eye. A loose or corroding termination heats under load long before it shows any visible sign. That’s why a scan picks up what you can’t see by eye.
A different board, years of heat damage
A separate job. Connections carbonised and insulation broken down from heating up and cooling down over and over. This is the kind of damage a hot spot like the one above can lead to if it's never found and never dealt with.
What a proper upgrade looks like
New main switch, individual RCD protection on every circuit, and clear labelling so anyone can identify what's what later. Tested, certified, and built with room to add a circuit down the track instead of maxed out from day one.
