Private Power Pole Replacement & Installation

M Tech Electrical replaces, installs and repairs private power poles across Perth. Whether your existing pole has reached the end of its life, you've been asked to rectify a fault, or you need a new pole to bring supply onto a property, we handle the job from the first inspection through to reconnection and certification.

A private power pole — also called a consumer pole — is the pole on your property that carries the service from the network to your switchboard. Timber poles weather and rot at ground level, brackets rust, and cables work loose over the years. We'll tell you plainly whether yours needs replacing or whether a repair will do.

Received a notice about your pole? Send it through and we'll handle it end to end — inspection, quote, the rectification work, and all the coordination with Western Power including disconnection and reconnection. You don't need to speak to them at all.

What We Do

Consumer Pole Replacement

Full replacement of rotted, leaning or non-compliant private poles. 6.5m poles installed as standard for residential properties.

Point of Attachment Repairs

Repair or replacement of the bracket and connection where the service cable meets your property — a common failure point and a frequent defect.

Underground Conversions

Remove the pole entirely by converting your overhead service to an underground supply. Trenching, conduit and reconnection handled.

Western Power Liaison

We arrange the disconnection and reconnection and manage the paperwork and compliance side, so you're not chasing anyone.

Notice Rectification

Received a defect notice or inspector's order? We inspect, explain what's actually required, and complete the work within the timeframe stated.

New Pole Installation

New private poles where supply needs bringing onto a property — rural blocks, subdivisions, outbuildings and long service runs.

Pre-Sale & Solar Preparation

Poles flagged before a property settles or ahead of a solar install — assessed and rectified so the job isn't held up.

Pole Repairs We Carry Out

Not every pole needs replacing. Where the pole itself is sound, we repair the fault rather than quoting the bigger job:

Why Property Owners Use Us

How the Process Works

We inspect the pole and point of attachment on site and confirm what's required. You then receive a written fixed quote covering the full scope, including the Western Power coordination. Once approved, we book the outage window with Western Power and confirm the date with you. The changeover is completed, the service reconnected, and an Electrical Safety Certificate issued.

Poles are supplied in compliant materials to suit the site — CCA treated timber, galvanised steel or fibre reinforced cement — and all work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 and to Western Power's requirements for consumer installations. M Tech Electrical holds Electrical Contractor Licence EC 14977 and carries full insurance — documentation available on request.

Power Pole FAQs

What is a private power pole? +

A private power pole — also called a consumer pole — is a pole on private property that carries the overhead service from the network to the property's switchboard. Western Power maintains the network up to their connection point, and the private pole beyond it is maintained by the property owner. If you're unsure which applies to your pole, send us a photo and we'll let you know.

I've received a Western Power notice about my pole — what happens now? +

Get in touch and we'll take it from there. We'll inspect the pole, explain what's actually required in plain terms, quote the rectification work, and deal with Western Power on your behalf — including arranging the disconnection and reconnection. You don't need to coordinate anything with them yourself.

How do I know if my pole needs replacing? +

Common signs are a visible lean, cracking or splitting in a timber pole, rot at ground level, rusted or loose brackets at the point of attachment, or a service cable that has come loose or is sagging. Poles are also commonly picked up during a Western Power inspection, at the time of sale, or when a solar system or switchboard upgrade is being done.

What size pole do you install? +

We install 6.5m poles as standard for consumer pole replacements, which suits most residential properties in Perth. Where a site needs something different — longer spans or unusual clearances — we'll confirm the correct specification as part of the quote.

Do you install new poles, or only replacements? +

Both. As well as replacing existing poles, we install new private poles where supply needs bringing onto a property — rural blocks, subdivisions, outbuildings or long service runs. We'll assess the site and set out what's required.

Will my power be off, and how long does it take? +

Yes, power needs to be off while the pole is changed over. Most straightforward consumer pole replacements are completed in a day, with the outage limited to the working period. We arrange the disconnection and reconnection with Western Power and give you a clear window beforehand so you can plan around it.

Can I go underground instead of replacing the pole? +

In many cases, yes. Converting the overhead service to an underground supply removes the pole entirely, which is worth considering if the pole is at the end of its life, you're landscaping, or you simply want it gone. It's a larger job involving trenching and conduit, so we'll assess the site and set out both options so you can compare.

Do you provide a quote before starting? +

Always. Pole work varies a great deal depending on access, pole condition, the point of attachment and what Western Power requires, so we inspect the site first and provide a written fixed quote covering the full scope.
