Selling or renting a home in WA? We check, replace and certify smoke alarms and safety switches so your property meets the rules. For homeowners, landlords and property managers.
Before a home in Western Australia is sold, rented or hired, the owner has to make sure two things are in place:
Older homes often fall short on both: alarms past their replace-by date, battery-only alarms where hard-wired ones are needed, and switchboards with one RCD or none. We check what’s there, replace or add what’s needed, and give you the results in writing for your settlement agent or property manager.
Quick check: take an alarm down and look at the label on the back. If the manufacture date is more than 10 years ago, or the replace-by year has passed, it needs replacing.
Old, expired or faulty alarms swapped for new hard-wired photoelectric alarms, interconnected where required.
Safety switches added to your switchboard so every power and lighting circuit is protected. If the board can’t take them, we’ll tell you why.
Checks and upgrades before settlement, with written results for your settlement agent.
Compliance before a new tenancy, for single homes or a portfolio. We arrange tenant access and report to the owner or property manager.

Need an electrician for a common property fault?
Yes, in most cases. WA rules require compliant smoke alarms to be installed before a home is sold, rented or hired, and they generally need to be mains-powered (hard-wired). A 10-year non-removable battery alarm is only allowed in limited situations where hard-wiring isn't practical. We'll tell you which applies to your property.
Smoke alarms have a service life of 10 years and must be less than 10 years old when a property is sold or a new tenancy starts. The manufacture or replace-by date is printed on the back of the alarm. If it's past or close, it needs replacing.
Yes. In WA, at least two RCDs (safety switches) protecting all power and lighting circuits must be installed before a home is sold or rented. Many older switchboards have one or none. We can check yours from a photo.
Most homes take an hour or two to check and bring up to standard, depending on how many alarms need replacing and whether RCDs need to be added. We'll give you a time and price before we start.
Yes. We regularly work with landlords and property managers, arrange access with tenants, and send the results and invoice to whoever needs them.
